  Planer Blades

Welcome to our website! You will find many sources of discount planer blades throughout this page.

A planer is only as good as the blades that are in it. The sharper the planer blades are, the cleaner the edge once they are finished, and this is the primary reason for using a planer. There are many different types of these blades available and they may be found online by doing a detailed search.

The high-speed steel blade is the standard blade that accompanies almost every planer purchased. These blades are very serviceable and can be re-sharpened after some use in order to extend their lives. However, planer blades of this material will chip and shatter much more easily than blades made from higher-grade materials.

Cobalt-coated planer blades will have a longer life than the high-speed steel ones because they tend to hold their edge for a much longer time before requiring sharpening. This provides a cost savings to those who use their planers very frequently. The cobalt blades will still chip should they hit a nail or other obstruction in the material, but they will maintain a good edge over the rest of the blade.

Titanium is the top of the line material when it comes to planer blades. Titanium blades hold their edge for a very long time and tend to warp less frequently than blades made from other materials. These blades are a bit more expensive but are well worth it should the planer be put through its paces on a daily basis.

Any planer blades should be replaced immediately should they become chipped or shattered. Once chipped, the odds of them shattering or of small pieces coming off at high velocity become greatly increased. This is a safety hazard not only to the operator but also to anyone working in the general area and should be attended to as soon as possible.
